Saturday, April 05, 2014 – The government of Afghanistan has established the nation’s second national park, Wakhan National Park. Coming in at just over 1 million hectares, or 4,200 square miles, (that’s 25% bigger than Yellowstone National Park) the entire Wakhan District has been protected by this declaration. Bordering three countries, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and China, Wakhan is a narrow valley that is sandwiched between the Hindu Kush and Pamir Mountains.

NatGeo has some additional information on the Wakhan District!
